2023 Honda CR-V Seating, Cargo and Interior
The Honda CR-V is great to drive, spacious, fuel efficient, and easy to operate, making it an excellent choice for drivers looking for a daily commuter or a family-friendly crossover SUV. The new CR-V is getting a complete overhaul and an increased wheelbase, from exterior to interior. Knowing that the CR-V is being remodeled has many drivers asking about what changes will be included with this generation.
Does the 2023 Honda CR-V have a third row?
The answer to this question is no, or at least not in the United States. Although the 2023 Honda CR-V doesn’t have a third row, it does offer class-leading cargo and passenger space. If you’re looking for a three-row SUV option, Honda offers the Pilot with a spacious interior and smooth ride. Honda also has the Odyssey, a minivan with nimble handling, a cavernous interior, and plenty of power as a three-row option. Unless your passenger needs exceed five, the CR-V provides plenty of cargo and passenger space without moving up to a three-row option.
Seating and cargo space for the 2023 Honda CR-V
Even without a third row, the 2023 Honda CR-V wheelbase has been stretched 1.6 inches over last year’s model to offer more space for five passengers and their cargo. Honda has four trims for the 2023 CR-V: EX, Sport Hybrid, EX-L, and Sport Touring Hybrid. The interior measurements for all four trims are the same:
- Front headroom: 38.2 inches
- Rear headroom: 38.2 inches
- Front legroom: 41.3 inches
- Rear legroom: 41.0 inches
- Front shoulder room: 57.9 inches
- Rear shoulder room: 55.9 inches
- Front hip room: 55.6 inches
- Rear hip room: 52.6 inches
- Cargo volume with the rear seat up: 39.3 cubic feet
- Cargo volume with the rear seat down: 76.5 cubic feet
- Passenger volume: 103.5 cubic feet
The most significant difference between last year’s model and the 2023 CR-V is cargo volume. The 2022 CR-V offered 39.2 cubic feet with the rear seat up on the non-hybrid models but only 33.2 cubic feet on the hybrid options. Likewise, the cargo volume with the rear seat down was 75.8 cubic feet on the non-hybrids and only 68.7 cubic feet on the hybrids. By offering the hybrid as a standard engine on the traditional CR-V trims, Honda can tremendously increase cargo and passenger capacity on the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid.
How does the 2023 CR-V seating and cargo compare to other small SUVs?
The 2023 Honda CR-V provides plenty of cargo and passenger space for a small crossover SUV, but how does it stack up against its competition? Let’s look at three competitors of the Honda CR-V to compare seating and cargo dimensions:
  2023 Chevrolet Equinox |   2023 Mazda CX-50 |   2023 Toyota RAV4 | |
Headroom (front/rear) | Â 40.0/38.5 inches | Â 39.1/38.6 inches | Â 37.7/39.5 inches |
Shoulder room (front/rear) | Â 57.2/55.5 inches | Â 55.9/53.6 inches | Â 57.8/56.4 inches |
Hip room (front/rear) | Â 54.2/51.7 inches | Â 53.6/52.1 inches | Â 54.3/47.7 inches |
Legroom (front/rear) | Â 40.9/39.9 | Â 41.7/39.8 inches | Â 41.0/37.8 inches |
Cargo volume seat up/down | Â 29.9/63.9 cubic feet | Â 31.4/56.3 cubic feet | Â 40.0/69.8 cubic feet |
Passenger volume | Â 103.5 cubic feet | Â 100.3 cubic feet | Â 98.4 cubic feet |
As you can see, the 2023 Honda CR-V either meets or exceeds its competitors’ offerings in most dimensions, with the most considerable discrepancy when the rear seat is folded down in the CR-V, extending the cargo volume to 76.5 cubic feet. The next closest is only 69.8 cubic feet, a significant difference when considering the cargo area in a small SUV.
Interior design
Not only does the 2023 Honda CR-V offer spacious cargo and passenger room, but it also features an interior design created for passenger and driver comfort to make the drive better. Interior features on the base EX include rear-seat heater ducts, cargo area tie-down anchors, LED cargo area lights, push-button start, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The reclining, fold-down 60/40-split rear seat gives you more passenger and cargo configuration options. You also get heated front seats and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support on the EX.
Standard tech features to improve the ride include a 240-watt audio system with six speakers, Bluetooth, a 2.5-amp USB audio interface, 3.0-amp USB-C charging port, a 12-volt power outlet, a 7-inch driver information interface screen, and a 7-inch color touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities.
Moving up trims adds driver’s seat memory settings, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather trimmed seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, ambient interior lighting, and an automatic-dimming rearview mirror. You can also get additional USB-C ports, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, SiriusXM, HD radio, a 320-watt sound system with eight speakers or Bose premium system with 12 speakers and subwoofer, a wireless phone charger, a Honda satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition and HD digital traffic, and HondaLink.
